Verizon Wireless CFO Fran Shammo said that the company plans to introduce an $80 prepaid smartphone that will be available with a 1GB data plan. The device will go on sale next week. Though Verizon declined to provide details about the device itself, the move would be a strategic shift for the company, which has focused on its post-paid smartphone business. Verizon offers a prepaid service called Unleashed, which offers unlimited voice, texting, and web for $50 per month.
