No Spring-assist slider
This phone looks very nice. I've been in a Verizon store and reviewed this phone in person. I am not a big fan of the curvy design, and it is too plain looking (the LG Spectrum looks much better in comparison), and it is a bit thick - which is expected for a phone with a full keyboard, hope it will help for longer battery life as well - but otherwise it looks very good.
Especially the keyboard has a great feel when typing, although there should be more space between the keys.
But what bothers me very much is the slider mechanism. There is no "spring assist" - unlike every other slider phone on the market - which makes the Droid 4 sliding up and down cumbersome, and does not provide the quality feel that I tend to expect from such a hig...

I have seen several forums where people complain about the lack of spring assist, but I just don't get it.
My Touch Pro2 had a spring-assisted slider, and my new Droid 4 does not, but it is super-easy to slide open and closed, and I do it with one ...

I recently upgraded from a Droid 2 to a Droid 4. The lack of spring assist is for a reason. Spring assited sliders have one major flaw, and that is no long lasting durability. Over time, through excessive use, any spring will eventually lose it's "spr...

Micro-USB chargers
My Droid 4 came with a wall charger that has 5.1 volts and 850mAmp output via a micro-USB cable plugged into it. That cable can be removed and plugged into a computer to charge as well.
I have a charger from my old HTC Touch Pro2 that has 5 volts and 1000mAmp output via a mini-USB cable that plugs into the charger.
If I buy a micro-USB cable and plug that into the HTC charger, will it work with my Droid 4 to charge it SAFELY?
Googling this issue raises doubts that Moto is behaving with any "standard" micro-USB being able to charge their phones.
Yes, it will work. The voltage is key - the phone will only draw as many mAmps as necessary but if it's insufficient, it won't charge at all. 0.1 volts seems more than in tolerance for a phone to charge.
"That's a huge gap"
RE:
"but there is a bit too much space/air between the two halves of the phone. Held sideways up to my eyes like a pair of binoculars, I could read the text on my computer screen from several feet away through the phone. That's a huge gap."
Let me surmise why that might be.
For example, on my LG enV Touch (first and LAST LG anything) ... without a screen protector on the inside display, overtime, with the phone close, the keyboard will create small impressions on the inside screen ... as evident by the impressions on the screen protector, without which, they would be on the screen!
So, the gap you are referring to may be to prevent this, w/o out the need for a screen protector - at least for that purpose.

There's no inside screen though, the screen on all droids never comes in contact with the keyboard.

CDMA support
âšī¸ was hopiong this would be a global ready phone (GSM). phone has SIM slot. Am genuinely disappointed.
Check the News tab above. There is GSM capability, and Verizon confirmed that they plan to enable it at a later date. Phone Scoop broke that news. đ
With that said, in general, all LTE phones have a SIM slot. So when it comes to LTE phones, a SI...
