Is any GSM phone compatible w/ TracFone/Net10 simply by changing the SIM card, or is it proprietary?

๐Ÿ˜• I read one response to a post here that seemed to indicate that TracFone (incl. Net10?) GSM phones weren't compatible/interchangeable with any GSM phone or service simply by switching the SIM card, contrary to what N1 Wireless (a GSM phone, SIM card & supplier & phone unlocker) indicated. I know full-well that TracFone/Net10 has a really bad rep for customer service (experienced it myself many times) but I still have time w/ them & I want a pre-paid phone service, don't like contracts. I had a Motorola V176 & it was a pretty good, simple phone, I'd replace it with another as I already have spare batteries & chargers for it, but as I need to replace it, I thought I'd ask... & I like the possibilities of being able to switch the SIM card & ...

Tracfone destroyed my account in one phone call...

This evening, I have had absolutely the worst customer service that I have ever, ever experienced from any company whatsoever out of Tracfone. If, after reading this you choose to activate with this company, well, I would just wonder why.

A week ago I activated a Motorola W376g. After four days, the phone failed. It wouldnรƒยขรขโ€šยฌโ„ขt turn on at all. On Saturday, I called Tracfone, went through the normal routine of checking the phone out. The support rep. told me a new phone would arrive in 3-5 days.

Today, Wednesday October 14, the new phone arrived. I called TF to have my old number ported over. Over the next 20 minutes the rep asked for my SIM card numbers, the phone number to be ported, all the usual stuff.

I was then put on...

AVOID - AVOID - AVOID - AVOID - AVOID - AVOID - AVOID

My advice is to avoid ST.Com "like the plague!!!" Straighttalk.com is a TracFone affiliate.

After 9 mos. of using their service (unlimited auto bill)... I woke up one morning 02/01/10 and they had given my phone number to someone else and deactivated my phone! So all my calls were going to someone else!

I spent over 6 hours on the phone trying to get the issue resolved.

After about an hour they finally admitted they had erred in reassigning my number to someone else. And they indicated they would give me my number back... but... they could only do so... if... if drove 500 miles from Dallas (where I was located to St. Louis) to return to my original area code, so they could reactivate my phone in that area code. In the meantime... I ...

Tracfone NIGHTARE. Is there anyone who can help?

So my boyfriend lost his Tracfone last...march or april...(he's in jail right now)

In January I got him a new phone and tried to transfer the old number to the new phone, because he really has his heart set on keeping his phone number. (I had not activated this phone yet or anything before having the man transferring it.) Something went wrong I guess because I was never able to make a call.

After a few days, I called again was sent a new sim card. When I got the sim card I called them to activate it (making it clear I wanted to keep the original account's phone number, and she told me it would be the same) and after an hour the phone worked, but with a completey DIFFERENT phone number.

So once AGAIN I called for assistance and after...

one more question

How do you go about getting a Motorola Manual for the W377? All it came with was a very limited set-up instruction fold out.

best way to add minutes

I recently bought a tracfone, but am not sure what thhe best way to add minutes is.

I've read on some sites that it isn't really a good deal to buy a prepaid card, only because you may be able to get a better deal from the tracfone website. I have the motorola w376 with double minutes, so even if I do buy a $20 or $25 card, it still seems like a good deal to me.

service with 5180

We have had two Nokia's 5180ip since about 03. I can't recall what the service was back then but the last time my wife traveled with her's south thru central Ga and Fl she didn't get any service. Last fall I was in Jax Fl for a couple days and I didn't get any service with mine. These areas are listed under service coverage on the web sites maps. Could someone offer a reason why we weren't receiving any service. Is it because the old 5180 is only 800 mhz and Verizon,Sprint put out a dual 800 and 1.9 mhz. That maybe we were in a area putting out only 1.9 mhz. My phone always did get better reception than her's so we gust got a LG200c for her. Since its dual channel do you think our problem will be solved. Getting ready to go out of state and ...

Help....Motorola W377

My Mom just got a Motorola W377 and has some questions about it we weren't able to find the answers to on the Tracfone website.
1.Bluetooth-can she send contacts and pictures or only use it for handsfree calling?
2.When I went into her phone it has a place to format Initial Storage device---is that the SIM card? If so does that give her external memory?
3.It has a SIM app. Only option is to unlock-whenever you unlock it gives a # and if you hit the OK button it says IMEI checksum 5657-hit it again and it says random# 69590401------translation on this question (which isn't really a question) please.
4.It has an F.M. radio, which requires a headset-does this mean if she has a headset plugged into the phone can she receive F.M. radio and ho...

Text VIA emai from a computer

With Virgin Mobile, someone could send me a text message from their computer by sending an email to (mynumber)@vmobl.com and I would get the first 144 characters of the email on my cell phone as a text message.
Is there a similar way someone can send me a text message from their computer on TracFone?

Free TracFone airtime

Having a TracFone is cheaper if you aren't using it that much. But, if you're using it a lot, it's more expensive than a regulate cell phone plan.

I found a great article that lists a bunch of ways to save money and get free airtime, making having a TracFone even that much better!

Deleting Voicemail from a landline

I just got a prepaid Tracfone which is my first cell phone. It is a Motorola C139.

I have been getting voicemail messages from people I do not know. I want to know how I can delete these voicemail messages using my landline so that it doesn't cost me Tracfone minutes.

When I listen to the voicemail messages using my landline, I am not given the option to delete them or even to save them. It just goes directly from one message to the next until they are all played and then returns to an options menu. I cannot find this information in my phone manual either and I have been getting no help from emails to Tracfone Customer Service or their Telephone helpline.

I also tried to delete them by going to the
Voicemail Menu on my Tracfone ...
